Richard Moll, Iconic ‘Night Court’ Bailiff, Passes Away at 80

Richard Moll, the esteemed character actor renowned for his portrayal of the endearing and peculiar giant bailiff in the original “Night Court” sitcom, has passed away at the age of 80.

On Thursday, Richard Moll breathed his last in his residence located in Big Bear Lake, California. This sad news was confirmed by Jeff Sanderson, the spokesperson at Chasen & Company.

Moll’s notable role as “Bull” Shannon on NBC’s “Night Court” between 1984 and 1992, where he starred alongside Harry Anderson and John Larroquette, became etched in television history. His character developed a profound friendship with Roz Russell, the court’s other bailiff, portrayed by Marsha Warfield. Bull was renowned for his signature catchphrase, “Ohh-kay,” and his simplistic yet endearing worldview.

Following the conclusion of “Night Court,” Richard Moll lent his distinctive gravelly voice to various video games and comic book ventures, including his role as Harvey Dent in “Batman: The Animated Series.” He also made appearances in the horror genre, starring in films such as “Ghost Shark” (2013) and “Slay Belles” (2018).

Moreover, he voiced Scorpion in the 1990s’ “Spider-Man: The Animated Series” and took on minor roles in films like “The Flintstones” (1994), the Arnold Schwarzenegger comedy “Jingle All the Way,” and “Scary Movie 2.”

Despite his towering stature, standing at an impressive 6 feet 8 inches, he did not partake in the revival of “Night Court,” featuring John Larroquette. The original series concluded with his character being abducted by extraterrestrial beings in need of a tall individual to access items on their highest shelves.

Richard Moll leaves behind his children, Chloe and Mason Moll, his former spouse Susan Moll, and stepchildren Cassandra Card and Morgan Ostling.
